  Symbian Call & Profile Manager
This application was developed to serve two purposes:

1) Ringer Silencer: There are certain times during each day when people do not wish to be disturbed by their cell phone ringing. For instance when they are busy in meetings at the office or when they are at attending church on Sundays or during night or at other times when they normally rest or relax. The current option is for people to switch off their mobile phones but often times you may forget to switch off the phone.
The Profile Manager enables mobile phone users with phones using the Symbian OS to program their phones to switch the ringer off during pre-determined times for up to one full calendar year.
2) Call Blocker:  There are occasions when users do not wish to answer calls from certain phone numbers or they may wish to minimize ringer nuisance due to too many calls. At the same time they do not wish to miss calls from a few important numbers. Through the caller ID system, the user can currently identify the calling number and if he does not wish to answer the call from a particular number, he has to cut the call to stop the ringer which maybe embarrassing as the caller understands that the user has cut his call. Moreover the caller ID system may not correctly identify certain calls.

The Symbian Call Manager enables the user to set a black list and white list of numbers. When calls are received from calls on the blacklist, the ringer will not ring. Alternatively the user can set a white list so that his ringer will ring only when calls come from the numbers entered on his white list.

The user can therefore fix the criteria for his phone to ring depending on whether he wishes to accept calls only from a select few numbers on a white list or whether he wants to block calls from a select few numbers on a black list.

This application has currently been developed for the Symbian Series 60 and Nokia Communicators. Work is on to develop this for the Microsoft OS based I-Mate handheld device and other models as well.

Programming language: C++

  SIM Browser
The Sim Browser provides cellular operators and third parties with the opportunity to deploy Value Added Services based on Sim toolkit technology. The Sim toolkit can be used to provide various applications to the end users such as Information services, Online Betting, Lotto, E-Voting, Location based services and many more.

The applications are mostly menu driven and are fully dynamic in nature. This eliminates the tediousness involved in typing on the handset and remembering the numbers for each and every application and makes the application very easy to use, quick and user friendly.

User-friendly Menu Driven applications are stored in the SIM card. The user selected service request will be stored and processed in the SIM card itself before sending the data via SMS to the content provider who in turn will process the request and send the request specific response to be displayed on the customer’s handset as a menu or text depending on the data request.

Sim Browser works on Java Cards that are available in the market and most Sim card vendors manufacture Java enabled Sim cards. All phase 2+ handsets support Sim toolkit applications. The applications reside inside the Sim Cards and are synchronized as per the requirements of the Content provider’s applications through SMS. Hence any new application can be loaded into the Sim card over the air without user interaction. This removes the drawback of the requirement for replacing the Sim card for addition of new services onto the card. The applications residing in the Sim card can be removed in a similar manner making it easy for the content provider to manage the application and provide support.

The Sim Browser uses 128 bit encryption methodology while sending sensitive information like credit card number using the key within the Sim card. Decryption takes place only at the application provider’s end that has the key for decrypting purposes. The users benefit from the Universal easy-to-use interface for services with full Unicode character support and high Sim based security.
